About William J. Rouhana, Jr.
Chairman and CEO of Chicken Soup for the Soul®

For the past 25 years, William (Bill) J. Rouhana, Jr. has had wide-ranging success in both the media business and public service. His professional and philanthropic experiences led him to Chicken Soup for the Soul Publishing, LLC in 2008 when he became Chairman and CEO. With the help of dedicated licensing, distribution, and publicity partners, Rouhana is expanding the renowned Chicken Soup for the Soul® book series into a worldwide life improvement brand. Rouhana's extensive internet experience is focused on moving Chicken Soup for the Soul® into the digital world by developing a major web presence dedicated to life improvement, emotional support and inspiration.

Rouhana started his career practicing law with a focus on media industry financing. He then became a merchant banker, buying and selling media companies and other businesses. In 1993, he went on to launch Winstar Communications, Inc. (including Winstar New Media), taking this company to the forefront of the emerging internet industry. Under Rouhana's leadership, Winstar became one of the fastest growing companies in history, with 5,000 employees worldwide and with annual sales exceeding $1 billion in less than seven years. From 2002 to 2008 Rouhana served as an advisor to various media and other companies on strategy, acquisition and financing issues.

While successfully pursuing his business career, Rouhana also initiated a series of global and domestic policy initiatives that have had a significant impact. As a past Vice Chairman of the United Nations Association, Mr. Rouhana co-led eight citizens' inspection tours of U.N. Peacekeeping Operations during the 1990s that reported to the U.N. Secretary-General and the U.S. government. As a member of the Board of Directors of Business Executives for National Security (BENS), he served as a member of the Business Response Task Force which was formed at the request of Congressional leaders in response to the government's handling of Hurricane Katrina.

In 1998, Rouhana co-founded the Humpty Dumpty Institute, a non-profit organization that works to bring practical solutions to global problems. It is the only organization that regularly brings Members of Congress and senior Congressional staff members to the U.N. for private briefings on critical global issues. It has also established innovative partnerships to fund landmine clearance projects around the globe. Since its founding, Humpty Dumpty has generated nearly $15 million for landmine clearance programs in Angola, Armenia, Laos, Lebanon, Mozambique, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam, and counts approximately 25 sitting members of the U.S. House and Senate as advisors in its endeavors. Rouhana became the Chairman of Humpty Dumpty in 2010.

In 2008, Rouhana began working with the United Nations to engage the film and television industry in important global issues. As a result of these efforts, the first Global Insight Summit took place in June 2008 and was chaired by Rouhana and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. The Global Insight Program led to the creation of the Global Creative Forum (GCF), which holds annual meetings in Los Angeles between the highest ranking U.N. officials and creative community decision makers. The GCF, which is joint program of the Humpty Dumpty Institute and the UN Foundation, is chaired by Rouhana and works closely with the office of the UN Secretary General.

Rouhana and Robert Jacobs, his then business partner, led the acquisition of the world renowned Chicken Soup for the Soul brand in 2008. Since then the company has expanded significantly. Today, Chicken Soup for the Soul is working to deliver its life improvement message of hope and inspiration all over the world.
